In Pursuit

Life 8 Comments »Time: 10:47am

Updated
Turmoil speaks of a haphazard, busy life full of action. It’s the wrong word.

I’m considering many different possibilities which has me constantly thinking.

1) Job: where should I look next?
2) Wife: does a Mail Order Nebraskan Bride website exist?
3) Location: do I want to live in Japan next year?

I’m serious about all but one-half of one of these options. If you know me, you’ll figure it out.

Update: I’ve decided this post is dumb and overly cryptic. Basically, I’m saying I wish I had a good, godly Christian woman around here that I could woo off her feet and marry, but most of the ones I know all live in Nebraska and it’s gonna be hard to get the same quality up here near the Puget Sound.

Take a Double Shot

Life No Comments »Time: 11:57pm

Luebbe got me started on espresso.

I’ve only tried two different kinds so far — Random Coffee Roaster in Lincoln, NE, and Starbucks. My vote goes to Random, but Starbucks isn’t bad. The days I get the double-shot (Doppio Espresso - lame name) on my lunch break, I walk back to the work and sit down with a caffeine buzz ready to pound away at people’s personal problems manifest in the form of their wireless phones.

And the buzz makes it all feel okay.

It’s been 164 days since I’ve had any other kind of buzz. (You can calculate the time between two dates here at timeanddate.com. Or just ask Jake to count it up for you.)

Take a Sad Song and Make It Better

Friends, Life 1 Comment »Time: 6:01pm

So much happens in ten days, this is a brief checklist of things I would like to write about, but may never have a chance to get caught up on:

Thursday (May 17): The one-handed man on the plane from Seattle to Denver. Eventless flight to Omaha. Ride w/ Varvel to the bachelor party. Bachelor party.

Friday: Tyler + Luebbe + thai. Tux rental, rehearsal dinner, potential poisoning. Coffee w/ Cora. Final moments talking w/ bachelor-Phil.

Saturday: Wedding + the ups and downs. Sprite toast, substitute best man, seeing people. Dancing w/ the ladies. Tackling Phil’s brother to grab the garter. “May your quiver be full!” Cards.

Sunday: the dog, the airport, $9 roast beef + cranberry juice, mom. G&G, picked up dad at the bus station.

Monday: Getting the U-Haul, Wendy’s, lock, blankets, Mother’s day a week late, mowing the lawn, loading the truck, poker party w/ the Boulder crew. Suzanne unconscious and no good markers to draw on her.

Tuesday: Finish packing and drive. iPod. Stayed in Billings, MT. Smoky room.

Wednesday: Billings, MT to Kirkland, WA. More iPod. Country songs.

Thursday (May 24): Seeing Washington on the Eastside w/ my bro (wetlands, Medina beach, Chipotle). Movie: The Namesake. Trigun.

Friday: Work+

Saturday: Airport + grocery shopping + sausage balls + work.

Sunday: Church. Pirates 3. And typing, typing, typing…

An Obsession Beyond Compare

Life, Work 2 Comments »Time: 6:37pm

Phil loves mullets.

I mention this because I found out who my new boss will be today. He’s got an insanely long mullet. I’ve heard the name “Van Halen” applied to him more than once.

In any case, seems like I’ve got a cool boss. You can’t _not_ be cool with hair like that.

Speaking of hair, I haven’t had a haircut since I moved to Seattle. I honestly don’t think I’ve had a haircut since I came here too look for jobs in October. Needless to say, the hair is getting shaggy. I’d love to do something exciting with it, but I don’t want to put in the effort (or money). If only I knew some college girls who’d cut my hair for me… dang.

I miss my Nebraska women. Y’all rock harder than a mullet.

Return from the Land of My Homies

Friends, Life 1 Comment »Time: 9:30am

I returned from Nebraska yesterday evening. I had a great time while I was there. I saw over a dozen of my college friends through such activities as the co-consumption of coffee, devouring of food, watching of movies, playing of videogames (Burnout 3 is sweet), playing card games, and much discussion. Do to the great amount of verbal interaction, ridiculous statements, and funny moments, I got many new quotes to put in the database so you should be seeing a few new ones mixed in randomly as the QOTD (or as I select them for the QOTD).

Changing my setting for just a few days by being with old friends in my old town gave me a different perspective about some of the things going on in my life. It helped me realize how bitter I am about some of the events in my life from the last year and show me they aren’t worth being bitter over. I really enjoyed having some people speak to me truthfully about what they see in my life and taking a real interest in how things go.

Luebbe provided plenty of deep conversation. I had a nice breakfast with Erika and him at a bagel shop playing horrible, football-themed, song parodies. It was good hanging out with people who’re okay with being honest with each other and with themselves most of the time.

The hard part about being back home now is going to be living like I have been while having these fresh memories of what friendship can be. Can the friendships I have here develop into such deep ones? I hope so.

Thanks to all of you who I saw while I was in town, many thanks to my gracious host for the weekend, and I hope y’all keep on keeping it real. We only get one shot at life; don’t waste it lying to yourself about who you are or who you want to be.
