Happy Snow Day!

Life No Comments »Time: 10:20am

Wow, what luck. I wasn’t paying any attention Saturday night, then I woke up yesterday morning and everything was icy. Cora got in my car and I started scraping the windows. * scrape scrape scrape * “hmm….” * scrape scrape scrape * I heard Cora laughing from in the car. We decided that the 5 milimeters of ice would take half an hour to scrape off, so we decided we’d be late for church so we went back inside.

Last night was even more incredible. I got word of people going sledding, so I met them down in the lobby at 9pm. In our search for sleds, we wound up at the Wal-Mart south of town. Apparently, “it’s spring in retail.” Ok, seriously, IT’S SNOWING PEOPLE! Sell us sleds. Wal-Mart would’ve made at least $10 if they’d been selling sleds yesterday.

We got to the hill out at Holmes Lake yesterday, climbed to the top, and then we made use of the cardboard boxes we’d acquired. They managed fairly decently, although they were destroyed and wound up in the garbage by the time we left. So benevolent souls gave us a real sled which faired far better than the cardboard even though the sled was beat up and worn.

Afterwards there was hot chocolate and popcorn in Ray’s room, then back to my room. Oh, the joy of non-wet clothes.

And then I woke up and then I checked the internet and then I found out school was cancelled and then I decided to stay up since the day’s first activities didn’t involve trudging to class through the snow.

So now I have more time to study. * sigh *

It’s Somebody’s Birthday

Friends, Life 4 Comments »Time: 4:04am

Happy Birthday, Cora!

Yesterday (the day before her birthday) Cora threw a party in A-Town. About 15 people or so showed up for it. BBQ, hay ride, campfire, and canoes. The atmosphere totally rocked. The country does that to me those ocassional times I get to experience it. Lightning bugs are beautiful. Seeing hundreds or thousands of them hovering over a field at dusk amazes me.

A lot of my friends came and I was able to talk to them. It’s good getting to spend time together. This summer, it has been awesome being around and getting to see my closest friends at least once every week or two. Last night probably ranks among the highlights of my summer. I may not know how to give Jenny high-fives, and I learned once more of Linsey’s “wrath,” Matt didn’t eat the five burgers to earn his kiss, but that’s all part of the fun.

July 4th

Life 7 Comments »Time: 5:53am

Technically, it’s July 5th, but being that it’s six a.m. and I haven’t slept yet, let’s pretend it’s still yesterday, okay?

So anyway, earlier today, which is still July 4th (see above), I had a sweet day. Last night, Matt and I headed to his parents house and crashed there. Today I got a good dosage of decent food (Joe = breakfast, Kim = lunch, Whiskey Grill = dinner). Fireworks were fun. Seriously, Joe is like a kid with those things. He’s Matt’s dad, and he seems like he’s having the most fun of anyone. You should hear him scream when the wick is short on the firecracker. Their dog didn’t like ‘em at all.

Dinner at Whiskey Creek Grill was tight. 10oz burger, baby! Peanuts scattered across the floor created an interesting aura, the country music playing in the background, and the western-movie posters definitely tipped the scales.

Hearing Matt’s dad and grandpa tell stories topped off the evening. Tormenting children by freaking them out at unawares, driving through bad parts of town (a.k.a. ghettos), and other such things. Good stuff. After that, we came back home and I scuttled off to work.

AND I FORGOT TO PICK UP MY PAYCHECK!

It’s okay though. I can’t cash it yet anyway. The bank will be closed before I ever wake up tomorrow. Call me Mara, for I’m still broke.

Tomorrow is Cora’s day-before-birthday part, and I’m looking forward to that. Whee!!!

Plenty

Friends, Life No Comments »Time: 7:57am

After the wedding yesterday, Tyler, Cora, Jake, Jesse, Matt, and I hung out here in the house playing Monopoly, conversing, and such things. It was fun getting to hang out with everybody outside the context of school. Being here in Lincoln and able to do things like this is nice. It was also good to see everybody else who was at the wedding, yesterday.

Matt’s almost moved in; he ran home today to get his clothes then he’ll be here for the summer. Chesnut brought some things over today, too. He’s going to be living here for a couple weeks before he goes to Zambia as one of the team-members from our university’s Navs. I’m not sure if he’s gonna start staying here tonight or not. I’m not sure if Matt will be back tonight or not. The last couple nights we’ve had four people stay here in the house ’cause they needed a place to crash. Perhaps a return to being alone?

I don’t feel alone. Or I just don’t feel lonely. Even with the silence.

Thoughts. Plenty of them, today.

Flexes His Muscles

Life No Comments »Time: 1:52am

Woowheee. * rubs his muscle * I went to the Rec. Center with Cora last night and did a bit of running and some weight machines. It’s the first time I’ve worked out in a couple months. Yay. Got in some good talking with Cora during and afterwards, so that was pretty cool.

Finally have some idea what’s going on with my other hosting, as I mentioned in another updated post today.

Apparently my mom hasn’t been to my site since the new poll got up, ’cause nobody has voted for ______ being a good name for a “son.” Then again, maybe she voted for “moma’s boy.” ;)

Goals for today:
• finishing dorm Treasurer duties
• call the Gage’s
• play Diablo 2
• hang out with mis tomodachis_ (yes, that’s español and Japanese quite butchered)
