Take a Double Shot

Luebbe got me started on espresso.

I’ve only tried two different kinds so far — Random Coffee Roaster in Lincoln, NE, and Starbucks. My vote goes to Random, but Starbucks isn’t bad. The days I get the double-shot (Doppio Espresso - lame name) on my lunch break, I walk back to the work and sit down with a caffeine buzz ready to pound away at people’s personal problems manifest in the form of their wireless phones.

And the buzz makes it all feel okay.

It’s been 164 days since I’ve had any other kind of buzz. (You can calculate the time between two dates here at timeanddate.com. Or just ask Jake to count it up for you.)

Post Coffee-Date

Seinfeld-esque question for ye all. Imagine it in Elaine’s voice if you will. Only because she’s the one with half a conscience. “You told her you ’saw no future’ after only one date… and you told her over the internet? How is that even fair?”

In the Name of Java

I arrived at the coffee shop a few minutes late. Sitting outside, I saw a redhead who looked like the woman I expected to meet, but to be safe I pretended not to notice and walked by her and into the coffee shop. Glancing around quickly, I saw no other likely persons who met the description I looked for.

I walked back out the door and introduced myself.

“Hi, I’m Me, are you The One I’m Waiting For?”

“Yes, I am, how are you?”

“I’m good, I’m good. Sorry, I’m a bit frazzled, I just backed my car into a light pole.”

Do Not Leave the Piano in the Sand

I continue to spend copious quantities of time playing chess. Wikipedia has a chess portal with more information about the game then you could possibly retain.

Unfortunately, most of the games I’ve been playing end with my king dead. Needless to say, the valiance of my men and women in battle means nothing when the king makes tactical errors.

I got out of the house today. Today marks my furthest excursion from home since New Year’s Day. I met the assistant pastor for coffee (frappuccino!). We tend to talk about movies, and the high points of today’s conversation revolved around 2001: A Space Odyssey and Dr. Strangelove.

I played chess and had dinner with El Martin and his roommate tonight. Thai food rocks (peanuts, mmm). We’ve talked a bit about splitting an apartment at some point in the near future. The place I’m living is alright, but I’m looking for something at least slightly less bacheloresque. I just hope I can afford it. I need a pay raise.

As far as work goes, it’s been fine. I’m getting used to the job, but still have much to learn. I can learn a lot about interacting with people by doing this job; however, I have no intention of staying long term. At least not in the position I’m in. It’s one of those jobs where you’re paid decently, but expected to suffer in other ways.
