LOLCat Bible Translation

Good Times, Religious 3 Comments »Time: 6:29pm

In a humorous bit of sacrelige, some crazy people are translating the Bible into LOLCat. Behold, the LOLCat Bible.

I can already hear you asking: yes, this is for real. No, I don’t think they’re trying for accuracy.

e.g. God = Ceiling Cat

John 3:16 -

“So liek teh Ceiling Cat lieks teh ppl lots and he sez ‘Oh hai I givez u me only kitteh and ifs u beleevs in him u wont evr diez no moar, k?”

Excerpt from the Lord’s Prayer (Teh Ceiling Cat Prayer) -

Salvation Cometh

Video No Comments »Time: 4:18pm

GodTube.com. Yup, Christian video sharing. The front page currently features self-adulation, songs to God about “lost” friends, a cute girl saying a Bible verse, a tribute to Jerry Falwell, and… more self-adulation.

I’m not sure how bad I think this idea is. Oh wait, no, I found a perfect example.

Said the Joker to the Thief

Life, Work 1 Comment »Time: 11:17am

The interview will be rescheduled. Apparently they had an internal conflict. Oh well.

On Thursday I had an incredibly productive day. I sorted through several months of paperwork, filled out and sent in a few forms, contacted my bank about a couple of things, and checked on the re-titling process of my car. I also managed to get my haircut, buy a new bookshelf and groceries, assemble the bookshelf, and rearrange my room. I’ll show you pictures at some point.

Dating can be tricky. I’ve had two dates w/ the current girl, but things can get complicated quickly. When the communication is sporadic it can be hard to know where things are going much less try to direct the course of events.

I read the Book of James this morning. It’s got some good content.

“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” - James 4:14

Sample the Truth

Life No Comments »Time: 1:53pm

“But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?” - Galatians 4:9

I particularly appreciate the part where Paul writes “or rather to be known by God.” He knew me and he knows me.

“Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.” - Galatians 4:28

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” - Galatians 6:1-2

Grace Rocks

Religious 2 Comments »Time: 3:14pm

I’ve just started reading “What’s So Amazing About Grace?” by Philip Yancey. Grace is a huge topic and one that seems to get its meaning trounced when intermingled with a hundred pounds of theology or overly religious explanations (though I will not deny the importance of such ventures, it’s important not to get lost in the tangled roots of man’s musings). Of course, you can always get Webster’s definition, but in this case even it lacks some of the power behind what God has truly given us.

Here follows the simplest definition of grace I can muster: an unwarranted, unearned, unmerited gift given without the expectation of future repayment.
As Yancey puts it, “…grace does not depend on what we have done for God but rather on what God has done for us.” (Yancey, 55)

In the context of Jesus’ teachings including such prominent parables as The Prodigal Son, the concept of grace shows through. If you’re not familiar with the parable, I would recommend reading it.

The most amazing part about grace comes when you realize it applies to you in your own life. No matter what horrible sin–be it sex, lust, pornography, lying, stealing, murder, hatred, etc.–God will forgive you.

1 John 1:8-10 (ESV): “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

He loves you in spite of any terrible thing you’ve done in your past, anything you’re doing in the present, and anything you will do in the future. (This is not to say that he wants you to continue in such a lifestyle.)

It gives me incredible relief to know I’m loved by God and cared about by God despite my numerous shortcomings and my failure to live a life free of mistakes. God loves you the same way.
