Friday the 13th
Posted by on January 13th, 2006, at 4:48am

Ah, nothing quite like Friday the 13th. Honestly, I’ve always considered this to be my lucky day. I’m serious. I’d get married on Friday the 13th if whoever-my-future-bride-could-be consented to the idea.

Anyway, I’ll be driving to Kansas tonight. I’ll see Allie tomorrow and go to Engle’s wedding. Should be good times. I mean, really, of course it will be. Saturday the 14th is the full moon.

The Excursion

The excursion is a vehicle. No, I don’t mean a vehicle produced by a car company, but instead a vehicle for adventure, excitement, and thrills. I’m going on an excursion.

Tomorrow, I will wake up, get in a car, drive to the mountains, and then climb through them for five or six miles with my father. I’ve got plenty of food; indeed, it’s almost too much to fit in my backpack. I look forward to eating some of it so as to reduce the amount of weight I’m carrying.

I will savor the gorp. Good old raisins and peanuts, and of course M&M’s have been added. Sprayable cheese as well. It’s actually quite nasty compared to legit cheese, but it’s convenient because it doesn’t melt.

I’m taking my camera, too, so I’ll try to get some good pictures. It’s been a while since I’ve taken an opportunity to take pictures. Some of my most recent shots are from Rocky Mountain National Park last Thanksgiving when Allie was in town. It’s about time I get some fresh pictures of fresh scenery.

Hell, I could post some good lyrics right now. The new Emery album and the new Paramore album (I finally picked up my copy tonight) have plenty of songs about hearts breaking. Alkaline Trio has a good single out right now “Time to Waste” that I’d recommend as well. I digress.

I’m gonna head out on this excursion and for the first time in a while I won’t have any music with me, so we’ll see how I do listening to the trees, nature, and all of creation. I’m actually looking forward to it.

I haven’t been backpacking since I was a kid.

One for Allie

Everybody, everybody… along with me now, let’s all say…

Happy Birthday, Allie!

So Much Better than Tofu

Allie left today. I am sad about that. We had a lot of fun while she was here. I enjoyed being in the same vicinity as her since we’re normally so far apart. It’s hard to do things like watch TV together and take walks when five-hundred miles distant and it’s those things that I’ll miss.

A few pictures are available for your perusal. Unfortunately, I didn’t get great quality pictures and I forgot to copy Allie’s to my computer before she left, but I’ve put up a few for you to view.

Some Thanks Giving

I thank God for who he is and what he’s done in my life, for my family and all the many blessings he’s provided us with over the years, for my friends old and new, and most especially of all for you.

One of the biggest things I’m thankful for this year is meeting Allie this summer and getting to know her. As I’ve mentioned, she’s here in Colorado right now and we’ve been spending a lot of time together. Yesterday was most excellent — Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, some chill-time at home, and dinner and a movie at FlatIron Crossing mall.

Today involved traditional family Thanksgiving with relatives and later in the evening Allie and I went to be with people from my church for continued eating and game playing.

Some of the most exciting news of the day involves a measurement and the difference of an inch. After years of thinking she measured 5′ 3″ tall, a tapemeasure has confirmed Allie to be 5′ 4″ tall. This is exciting stuff!

Unfortunately, I am only 6′ 1/8″ tall and therefore unable to conscientously round up to 6′ 1″. Alas.

Tomorrow I will be working while you are playing and shopping and whatnot (and unfortunately for you, I suppose, whatnot may also include working). ‘Twill be hazardous for the health of retail employees, I fear.
