The Unforgotten One
A Poem by Erundur Anwamehtar
10/22/2006

“I’m just a man, I’m not a hero.” — My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade

Carry me away shrouded in black
regret, tucked inside this coffin,
while you say your last wish
though it never comes true
’cause I’m never

coming back to you.

Put me away

and don’t build a shrine.

I never wanted worship,
I hated your eyes –
filled with the look, the longing,

the love

for a saviour who never
rose

to rescue you.

this is not a fire escape,
a black steel embrace.

I decorate this coffin,
this shaped wood holds
a corpse in finery,
proof that I’ll never be

again.

Spend tonight editing,
reshuffling the cards,
make life what you want it to be
a stacked deck with no dead
ends

despite what temptation lends.

a shot or two and you’d be finished
you could forget all and sag
against the wall if

deception fails you.

In all your life, one thing fails
not. Cling, cling, cling,
don’t let go as you choke
on suffocating tears,
a veil upon your face.

Don’t watch for ghosts
as the years pass
nothing will come but memories
to haunt you
even though you played so well
and took life as it fell.

Good bye, I’ll never say
good bye, I’ll never hear
good bye, as I go the chorus sings
good bye.

“Tired Eyes, Won’t You Just Rest With Me”

“Tired Eyes, Won’t You Just Rest With Me”
By Erundur Anwamehtar
Title from “Overjoyed” by Waking Ashland
10/15/2005

I listen to embers
sparkle, pop, and silence
drops as the glow fades;
oranges and blues refuse to stay

I listen to silence
separated by thoughts
dripping as the glow fades;
Nothing to read but signposts
warning: darkness will not stay

I listen to breaths
rising, falling, & air goes
in and out, unfading
beneath the green tent.
She sleeps and my dream keeps
alive, she’s alive, and I want nothing more,
nothing less than everything she is

I listen to the light
shivering in the cold
wanting to be wrapped tight
hugging her close
no red dress in sight

Eyes ready
enter domed cloth to sleep
without the sky

Motionless

Motionless

A motorcycle lays beaten and bruised
lonely on the pavement
lights flicker and flare into dozens of windows
driving past a cycle down

A motorcycle lays beaten and bruised
a flash goes off, the scene now stored
forever on digital memory
sleuths decipher the moment: later

A motorcycle lays beaten and bruised
riderless on the pavement
the engine slowed, ceased
the force not withstood

A motorcycle lays beaten and bruised
wreckage strewn around
can’t hold it together
can’t hold it forever

A motorcycle lays beaten and bruised
life fleeting on the pavement

A White Canvas

A White Canvas
By Erundur Anwamehtar
09/14/2005

Never argue with a painting;
it won’t argue with you
or develop redder hues

unless you paint over the issues,
making broad strokes with a brush on fire.
Watch the orange tear

the wall — the backdrop for it all —
now gone black

as the gray sky looks upon ashes framed by assorted dusts.
The wind sweeps in, swift, and through

green trees, pining for notice, hoping to decorate a canvas —
a white canvas — painted by a lover’s brush.

The Shutter

Poetry Comments OffTime: 4:01pm

Poem: The Shutter
Author: Erundur Anwamehtar

From the west the sun comes
backwards to reach my eyes and shout
“I am fading and soon will reveal
nothing; you will see
nothing.”

I run inside to grab
my camera. It captures
the light’s remains. Picture
one last picture.

It’s all you get
to keep, but it’s an image
you’ll never see.
