Updating the Links / Community Trading
Posted by on July 11th, 2006, at 11:40pm

For the regular visitors, I thought I’d let you know I’ve updated the links on the side of the index page. Most notably, you’ll now find Erika and The Varv in the Friends section. The music, islands, and news sections each have a new site or two.

I’ve also added a couple comics to the comics section — PvP has been on the list in the past, whereas Questionable Content and Savage Chickens are new additions. I’ve got Savage Chickens comics posted all over my cubicle at work. They help keep me sane.

I’ve also added a “Community Trading” section. I’ve been using LaLa for several weeks now to trade CDs. For every CD you don’t want anymore and send to another user, a CD on your request list will get sent to you. It’s not a bad system and the cost is just $1/trade. The only “problem” I’ve had is some CDs didn’t get sent with artwork, but recently they’ve added an option to request only CDs with artwork. Shipping costs are included in the price LaLa charges for the trade (in addition to the $1/trade).

I just signed up for PaperBackSwap (book trading) and SwitchDiscs (CDs/DVDs/videogame trading) tonight, so I’ll give you more of a review on those later. Both of these sites ask you to pay to ship your own items, but in return you incur no shipping costs for items you receive.

With PaperBackSwap, after I listed 9 books I was willing to trade, it gave me three free credits towards books. I’ve used these and requested some books (Prey by Michael Crichton; a Calvin & Hobbes anthology; Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert), so they should be shipped to me soon.

I’ve had my first DVD requested on SwitchDiscs and will be sending that out soon. As soon as I get credit for the DVD, I’ll be able to request items from other users. With SwitchDiscs, my primary goal is unloading a bunch of old Playstation games I never play.

Also, remember to check out For Your Perusal in the sidebar (via del.icio.us) — an aggregate list of links I recommend taking a look at. If you’d rather grab the RSS feed, it’s right here.

Slight Mods
Posted by on July 9th, 2006, at 10:58am

I’ve made a few slight mods to the site including the titles of the categories–yup, they’re in English. I love other languages, but I figure it’ll make life easier for 99% of my viewers if they know what my category titles mean.

I’ve also upgraded to a slightly newer version of the theme I’ve been using (Ocadia), but you shouldn’t see much of a difference. I thought about going to a completely new theme, but this one still works for me.

I’m gonna go watch some Copa Mundial (World Cup)! The final game is today.

Unforseen Complications

Please be patient for a bit while the site is getting fixed up. It recently got moved to a different server on my host and I’m having a bit of problems getting everything back together again. Hopefully it won’t be more than a few more days till everything is back to normal.

Update: Well, slowly I’m getting the problems worked out. I’m still having trouble accessing the database, but it’s there somewhere otherwise you wouldn’t be seeing these posts at all.

The First Poll: Over
Posted by on October 16th, 2005, at 2:42pm

The first poll is over. Everyone who guessed “Next Weekend” is right. Jesse’s gonna be in Colorado for a wedding. If the slopes are open, he’ll be on them.

The new poll is up. Vote now.

More than Two!

My site is slightly older than two years now. (It’s been two years since I began using MT to run this site — prior to that I ran on Blogger for a while.)

Just so y’all know, I am still contemplating removing most of the archives permanently once I hit the workforce purely for privacy reasons. I’m not sure as yet what the best way to remain in touch with everyone while also maintaining some level of privacy from prying eyes would be. I’ll let you know once it reaches that point, but I thought I would inform you that such a day is coming.
