Rediscoveries – The Worst of The Archives
Posted by on September 8th, 2007, at 6:53am

From the OLD, OLD, OOOOOLD archives, here are some of my favorites. Please share your favorite memories in honor of my sometime-around-now 5th anniversary of blogging. (Note: The posts chosen below represent recovered posts from October 2002 through the end of 2004.)

    Hobo
  • yay. – my oldest recovered post (although I actually started in/around September 2002)
  • Hobo Art – one of the few lingering hobo related memories from my site (I can’t find the rest of the oldest posts)
  • Holy Expletive, look at that squirrel!
  • Tired Road – a poem about the time I pulled a 540 degree turn on the interstate at 70mph while trying to take Alien Ant Farm out of the CD player in my blue ’92 Ford Escort hatchback
  • Grits – Ooh Aah lyrics – this song will always be awesome
  • Modiglian – my favorite memories of this poem are of sitting in Jenny’s dorm room in Kaufmann and trying to read through it without running out of breath. At various points I remember Jake, Jenny, Rachel, and 4L all giving it a shot. Rachel got through the whole thing in one go.
  • KJ-52 Followup – the only KJ-52 post I still have
  • Valentine’s Special: Date the Jake – ladies, he’s still single! Waste no time, date the Jake NOW!
  • Still Waiting – leaning towards emo?
  • Jax STP 2004 – oh, the memories

As a brief update on the situation with the archives, I’m still missing a lot of old posts and there’s about six months from January 2005 through June 2005 that I probably won’t be able to recover due to an error in my backup of those months. But please enjoy the ones that have come back! Also, I’ve done my best to edit the archives to remove any full names (other than maybe Double-J and Luebbe and a couple references to Jake). If you want your name further hidden or expunged from any specific post, let me know.

Tweaking Out
Posted by on September 3rd, 2007, at 11:00am

I’ve tweaked the site a bit today. The header menu has been updated w/ the inclusion of a new Photo Gallery which grabs all of my photo sets from Flickr and makes them all nice and friendly to view. Also, I’ve updated The Quotes to be more built-in and use the updated look&feel of the site.

You’ll also see a new section called Pownce in the sidebar. It’s a website with functionality similar to the status capability on Facebook (e.g. “C. is angry with the Lords of the Power Station.”) and also similar to Twitter. It’s got some other abilities such as sharing links and files. Anyway, there’s already a Pownce Facebook plugin and a Pownce WordPress plugin so I’m playing around with it a bit. My profile is here and I’ve got one invite left for the site if anybody wants it.

Update: Well, you may notice that the archives go back quite a bit further now. All the way back until October 2002 when I first started blogging. Yup, I’ve been working all day on importing the old blogs and posts into here. I’ve been fixing some of it to work w/ the right formatting, correcting various internal links, and more. It’s still a bit in process as I move some of the posts to the correct categories and finish up the formatting.

Also, please keep in mind that I’m still missing a period of time from late 2004 thru mid 2005 which I haven’t been able to import yet. But this is a lot more complete than it was!

I actually remembered to start updating the “For Your Perusal” section recently so check over there in the sidebar down towards the bottom for links to stories I find interesting. There’s a good interview with Bad Religion, some links to iTunes related news and DRM, and an interview with the founder of PostSecret.

311 Posts Later

This is post number 312 (before I reimported the old site content) and with it comes a new site theme. It’s a free theme called “Sleepy Blue.” In any case, I’d say it’s a decent improvement from the previous one I had loaded. I’ve juggled a few things around on the sidebar as well, but it’s mostly the same. For those of you who travel to the site infrequently, this theme came with a nice calendar so you can utilize that to your advantage.

Please be aware that though the theme is improved, I’m still having some difficulty with the layout of posts related to some formatting plugins so you may notice a few glitches here and there in regards to line breaks and spacing.

Apologies

I apologize if you had trouble accessing the site today. One of my WordPress plugins randomly stopped working for whatever reason, so I axed it and replaced it with a newer, better version of an alternative plugin and now things are running smoothly. I also upgraded to the most recent version of WordPress while I was at it. You probably won’t be able to tell the difference, but if you’d like you can just imagine the engine of your car without any dust or misplaced grease. It’s like that.

Also, if you’ve tried using my RSS feed lately and it wasn’t working… I apologize. Apparently the address I had set up at Feedburner was from my old address from over a year ago which stopped redirecting at some point so things went dead. Whoops!

In any case, the feed addresses are as follows and are up to date and functioning properly:
anwanórëhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/anwamehtar
Comments for anwanórëhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/anwanorecomments55

Update: I’ve also refreshed the link categories in the sidebar to recommend sites I enjoy more recently. Also did some slight reorganizing of the sections and added a new “Teh Awesome” category for miscellaneous sites I enjoy. If you haven’t heard about Starcraft II yet, go view the previews at the link.

You’ll notice if you look closely that there are a few minor formatting issues with the text layout currently. I’m working to resolve this problem, but it’s not going to be finished tonight.

Another Update: I’ve tried some different plugin options for the formatting (Textile2 and TextileWrapper). While the newest versions of both of these plugins work, I’m encountering some spacing problems on a few of my posts. For now I’m just going to leave this plugin off and fix any of my posts where I used Textile to do the formatting.
