Tweaking Out
Posted by Erundur Anwamehtar on September 3rd, 2007, at 11:00am

I’ve tweaked the site a bit today. The header menu has been updated w/ the inclusion of a new Photo Gallery which grabs all of my photo sets from Flickr and makes them all nice and friendly to view. Also, I’ve updated The Quotes to be more built-in and use the updated look&feel of the site.

You’ll also see a new section called Pownce in the sidebar. It’s a website with functionality similar to the status capability on Facebook (e.g. “C. is angry with the Lords of the Power Station.”) and also similar to Twitter. It’s got some other abilities such as sharing links and files. Anyway, there’s already a Pownce Facebook plugin and a Pownce Wordpress plugin so I’m playing around with it a bit. My profile is here and I’ve got one invite left for the site if anybody wants it.

Update: Well, you may notice that the archives go back quite a bit further now. All the way back until October 2002 when I first started blogging. Yup, I’ve been working all day on importing the old blogs and posts into here. I’ve been fixing some of it to work w/ the right formatting, correcting various internal links, and more. It’s still a bit in process as I move some of the posts to the correct categories and finish up the formatting.

Also, please keep in mind that I’m still missing a period of time from late 2004 thru mid 2005 which I haven’t been able to import yet. But this is a lot more complete than it was!

I actually remembered to start updating the “For Your Perusal” section recently so check over there in the sidebar down towards the bottom for links to stories I find interesting. There’s a good interview with Bad Religion, some links to iTunes related news and DRM, and an interview with the founder of PostSecret.

311 Posts Later

This is post number 312 (before I reimported the old site content) and with it comes a new site theme. It’s a free theme called “Sleepy Blue.” In any case, I’d say it’s a decent improvement from the previous one I had loaded. I’ve juggled a few things around on the sidebar as well, but it’s mostly the same. For those of you who travel to the site infrequently, this theme came with a nice calendar so you can utilize that to your advantage.

Please be aware that though the theme is improved, I’m still having some difficulty with the layout of posts related to some formatting plugins so you may notice a few glitches here and there in regards to line breaks and spacing.

Apologies

I apologize if you had trouble accessing the site today. One of my Wordpress plugins randomly stopped working for whatever reason, so I axed it and replaced it with a newer, better version of an alternative plugin and now things are running smoothly. I also upgraded to the most recent version of Wordpress while I was at it. You probably won’t be able to tell the difference, but if you’d like you can just imagine the engine of your car without any dust or misplaced grease. It’s like that.

Also, if you’ve tried using my RSS feed lately and it wasn’t working… I apologize. Apparently the address I had set up at Feedburner was from my old address from over a year ago which stopped redirecting at some point so things went dead. Whoops!

In any case, the feed addresses are as follows and are up to date and functioning properly:
anwanórë - http://feeds.feedburner.com/anwamehtar
Comments for anwanórë - http://feeds.feedburner.com/anwanorecomments55

Update: I’ve also refreshed the link categories in the sidebar to recommend sites I enjoy more recently. Also did some slight reorganizing of the sections and added a new “Teh Awesome” category for miscellaneous sites I enjoy. If you haven’t heard about Starcraft II yet, go view the previews at the link.

You’ll notice if you look closely that there are a few minor formatting issues with the text layout currently. I’m working to resolve this problem, but it’s not going to be finished tonight.

Another Update: I’ve tried some different plugin options for the formatting (Textile2 and TextileWrapper). While the newest versions of both of these plugins work, I’m encountering some spacing problems on a few of my posts. For now I’m just going to leave this plugin off and fix any of my posts where I used Textile to do the formatting.

Updating the Links / Community Trading
Posted by Erundur Anwamehtar on July 11th, 2006, at 11:40pm

For the regular visitors, I thought I’d let you know I’ve updated the links on the side of the index page. Most notably, you’ll now find Erika and The Varv in the Friends section. The music, islands, and news sections each have a new site or two.

I’ve also added a couple comics to the comics section — PvP has been on the list in the past, whereas Questionable Content and Savage Chickens are new additions. I’ve got Savage Chickens comics posted all over my cubicle at work. They help keep me sane.

I’ve also added a “Community Trading” section. I’ve been using LaLa for several weeks now to trade CDs. For every CD you don’t want anymore and send to another user, a CD on your request list will get sent to you. It’s not a bad system and the cost is just $1/trade. The only “problem” I’ve had is some CDs didn’t get sent with artwork, but recently they’ve added an option to request only CDs with artwork. Shipping costs are included in the price LaLa charges for the trade (in addition to the $1/trade).

I just signed up for PaperBackSwap (book trading) and SwitchDiscs (CDs/DVDs/videogame trading) tonight, so I’ll give you more of a review on those later. Both of these sites ask you to pay to ship your own items, but in return you incur no shipping costs for items you receive.

With PaperBackSwap, after I listed 9 books I was willing to trade, it gave me three free credits towards books. I’ve used these and requested some books (Prey by Michael Crichton; a Calvin & Hobbes anthology; Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert), so they should be shipped to me soon.

I’ve had my first DVD requested on SwitchDiscs and will be sending that out soon. As soon as I get credit for the DVD, I’ll be able to request items from other users. With SwitchDiscs, my primary goal is unloading a bunch of old Playstation games I never play.

Also, remember to check out For Your Perusal in the sidebar (via del.icio.us) — an aggregate list of links I recommend taking a look at. If you’d rather grab the RSS feed, it’s right here.
