But You’re So Beautiful

Life No Comments »Time: 5:30pm

I love Seattle because of days like today. It’s sunny, blue skies, green trees. Spring is full blown today. I’m half-naked right now and loving it.

Martin got an iPod and converted all his albums to MP3s. The good news? I got my pick of his albums and ended up w/ about 15 CDs consisting mostly of ’90s alternative rock. Blink-182 FTW.

What’s my age again?

Made last minute dinner plans for tonight and breakfast plans for tomorrow. Apparently, I enjoy living moment-to-moment. It doesn’t hurt that yesterday George W. provided me w/ some much appreciated stimulation in the form of $600. Plus, I had my first payday from my new business which helps out, too.

Anyway, gotta head out for food. Later!

Accomplishing

Life 2 Comments »Time: 9:05pm

Yesterday, I upgraded three Wordpress blogs to 2.5.1. Had a good time at SaturdayHouse. After SH, Patrick, JDugan, and I were going planning to go to a teriyaki place. It was closed so we ended up at Denny’s.

Denny’s is great for several reasons: 1) food. 2) tasty food. 3) meaty food. 4) no rush - they’re used to people sitting around.

Zombies were discussed. I’d never thought about it before, but Patrick pointed out that zombie movies are an excellent vehicle for discussing societal issues. George A. Romero revolutionized the popular conception of zombies through his 1968 film “Night of the Living Dead” and following films. He did this by using zombies “to criticize real-world social ills - such as government ineptitude, bioengineering, slavery, greed and exploitation - while indulging our post-apocalyptic fantasies.” (Source)

Today, I went to church, cooked and ate several bratwurst, upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu 08.04 “Hardy Heron,” fought w/ multi-column CSS/XHTML design, converted six CDs to FLAC files, converted six albums of FLAC files to 320kbps MP3s for use on my iPod, updated my iPod catalog, and ate some cheese.

Now I’m going to go relax for a few minutes before sleep. Good night.

What’s Done

Life No Comments »Time: 8:18pm

Things I’ve done in the past week:
- tracked down a childhood friend I haven’t talked to in five years using Google and a knowledge of her family tree
- completed my first coding-for-hire project
- received registration paperwork for my business
- caught up on this season of Battlestar Gallactica
- stayed up late discussing life, love, and theory behind contemporary evolution’s effect upon modern human marriage and mating patterns
- spoke with confidence
- spoke without confidence
- began configuring my own web server running Ubuntu on a virtual private server slice
- began learning how to use JavaScript libraries to provide graphical effects on web pages
- further research into Content Management Systems
- bought a bunch of old/new music on eMusic (Flogging Molly, Fugazi, Metric, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Thom Yorke)
- ate too much pizza
- did a few pushups for the first time in months

And tonight, I vegged out for hours watching TV. I needed a break.

Open the Vents Wide and Hope They’re Not Too Dusty

Life 2 Comments »Time: 5:32pm

Ah, my blog, the place where I can expound more than 140 characters!

I haven’t been sleeping enough lately. Last night I stayed up late working on my (other) blog and writing up a contract proposal. So today, I fueled myself with significant amounts of Coca Cola and Dr. Pepper. I felt pretty good until 3:30 PM and then I more or less glazed over while staring at my computer and typing fast during the brief flashes of time where I remembered what I was supposed to be doing.

By the time 5:10 rolled around and I climbed aboard the bus, I was sleepy. I powered on my iPod and fell asleep to The Weakerthans.

I got home, checked the mail, and thought all was good. I had a letter waiting from a company that I recently sent an application and resume. I got inside and also had a package from Amazon I’d been waiting a week for.

I opened the letter, read it, and found out I’d been denied in deference to other more qualified/appropriate candidates.

Then I opened the package from Amazon. The book was fine, but the Cowboy Bebop - The Movie DVD sounded bad before even opening the case. I could hear the DVD sliding around in the case before I even opened it. Once I opened it, I saw the case was broken and didn’t properly hold the DVD in place. It was scratched badly and had a small crack as well.

This is where I’m glad Amazon has a good return policy, but that’s not enough to save my day. I’m pissed.

Thanks for reading.

Beware of Bobcats

Life 1 Comment »Time: 9:53pm

Doom doom doom doom doom.

Nah, for real, everything is fine. I watched the first episode of Invader Zim the other day so Gir’s “doom” song has been stuck in my head. Funny episode, funny show.

I rewatched Before Sunrise again last night. Excellent movie still. Some foul language, but if you can survive it you’ll get a fair amount of useful dialogue and intriguing character displays for your efforts.

I got Stardust for my birthday, but haven’t rewatched it yet. Looking forward to it, but for whatever reason I want to share the experience so I’ve been trying to find other people who want to watch it with me. No luck yet, but maybe I’ll just ask around on Saturday and see if anybody wants to.

This weekend through about next Wednesday will be crazy. Saturday is the usual Saturday gig these days: grabbing breakfast w/ Mathieu, meeting regarding the church website development, and then heading down to SH. Most of the day disappears right there.

Sunday the usual Sunday stuff, but also gonna be hanging out at a party w/ some SH-fringe folk I met a couple weeks ago. Actually, I’ve only met one of the hosts, but I’ve talked to her boyfriend a decent amount on Twitter and he’s pretty cool.

I got a new USB flash drive on Sunday. It holds 8GB. It still amazes me the progress technology makes so quickly. In college, my USB flash drive only held 32MB. But now I can fit more than a DVD on it. Who’s the old man now?

I was looking at some programming courses online if I want to get some “official” education/certification: over $2k for a three course certification. Probably not a bad rate, but it frightens me enough to keep me at bay until I decide how serious I am. I still want to do the International Studies grad program, too, but the delay in starting until Fall 2009 has me a bit antsy to find something to do in the meantime.

I wish I could express everything I’ve been thinking lately, but more and more I’m finding that some parts of life just don’t play out well in cyberspace. That’s probably why I haven’t been posting as much lately. That and all my secret projects, mwahaha!

I’ll probably never link to them from here, but if you’re curious I’ll let you know about them when they launch.
