My nominee for movie-to-never-watch-on-a-plane-in-order-not-to-upset-fellow-travelers" is: "Fearless." It opens with an aerial shot of the after effects of an Iowa 1989-like plane crash in a cornfield. It's a brilliant character study from a transcendent Jeff Bridges as a man who comes to question his own mortality after surviving and the drastic steps he takes to bring a distraught Rosie Perez (whatever happened to her, anyway?) out of her funk after surviving the same crash but losing her child. I highly recommend it.

I forgot to mention another great item to watch on a plane: Nightmare at 20,000 Feet -- the classic Twilight Zone episode w/ the gremlin on the wing. It should be an obvious choice for the list. If you've never seen it, you should hunt it down and watch it.

Not to worry Jake - no such implication was intended. I must admit I liked it far more than is sensible. Which is to say, of course, a tiny little bit.

Sucking and being misunderstood are not necessarily mutually exclusive Hermit. Take a good chunk of popular modern "art" for example.

Ok, it had it's good moments, but in general I didn't enjoy the style or content. I enjoyed the idea better than the actual production.

I think Snakes on a Plane would have to be on the "worst" list. Mostly just because it sucked.

If I had a laptop or an iPod w/ video I would at least load the first episode on it. I have neither.

Well, you could just load the first episode of LOST onto your laptop, but I'm guessing that's not what you had in mind. I suppose having it on the main screen for all passengers to see would be quite an experience.

Maybe we should try to come up with a list of the all time best/worst movies to watch on an airplane.

Which of the lists would "Airplane", "Snakes on a Plane", and "Alive" be on?
