I resolved myself to start from the beginning again before enjoying number seven. Unfortunately, I didn’t begin soon enough and am in the middle of number two right now.
My brother encouraged me to read the epigraph to The Deathly Hallows nonetheless. I’m glad I did. It lends me a powerful and peaceful satisfaction about the tale. It tells me how things will work when all has been done, but with no clumsy and ruinous declarations. The joy is not the raw detail and revelation in itself but to see the fullness revealed. The epigraph helps this along by confirming it.
I cannot imagine a better way to read a story than, while enjoying wondering about the specific path, being satisfied with the whole.
The whole reason I binged on it is so I would be able to be surprised by the ending without knowing (for sure) what happened. It did surprise me, but as The Dane points out it’s total fan service and probably the reason I love the ending as much as I do.
I understand your reasoning though, Hermit.
It’s nice to hear some rational comments on it. The thread over at Slashdot was annoying. (Trolls.)
Yeah, it was the raddest kind of rad. The whole book was climax and total and complete fan service. I loved it.
