I was going to review it myself, but I’ve decided this one is better. Relient K’s new album “mmhmm” is reviewed at Jesus Freak Hideout. I must say I love the album. Definitely more punk-like and no silly songs (though the wit definitely remains), but musically and lyrically it’s one of my better purchases this year. The lyrics are honest and stem from real life experiences. The music has evolved and improved and the sound is even more punk-oriented than previous releases. They incorporate the piano into various tracks in a softer manner. In one song, they even incorporate the seemingly popular screaming style that many bands have picked up on (Pillar in “Bring Me Down”, for example) which involves not a hardcore constant screaming, but screaming lyrics for emphasis or as a motif.
All in all, I would give the album a 4.6 out of 5.0 rating and would recommend rock and punk music fans to purchase it. I bought it cheap at MusiChristian. (Cheapest site I could find — I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise.)
