Ron Brown

Former Nebraska Cornhusker assistant coach Ron Brown spoke at Nav Nite tonight. That dude is stellar. He preached the gospel hardcore and he hits the major issues. (No, Luebbe, not free will and and human nature, just the bare guts of salvation and what Jesus did for us.) Anyway, I was excited to see several people apparently react to the message. My only hope now is that they reacted sincerely and faith grows in their lives through God’s presence and relationship with them.

It served as encouragement to me, too. Encouragement not to forget what Jesus did for me on the cross and that he’s still alive because of his resurrection. Another major emphasis was boldness. Ron Brown gets up in yo’ face about that one. “Go public! America is soft… don’t be ashamed of your faith! There is truth, God gave us his truth!”

Anyway, I need to get some homework done before I head to bed tonight, so I best begin to do it. G’night.

Ah yes, the glories of splitting hairs to avoid the uncomfortable but intimately intertwined!

Granted, there is no need to have “free will” or “human nature” as glowing section headings in any preaching of the gospel. Yet, I find your statement amusingly nonspecific. What exactly did he say were “the guts of salvation”? What exactly did he say “Jesus did for us”? In these specifics he will necessarily reveal his beliefs on those ideas. Thus, I would guess he did hit on those issues whether he named them or not.

However, your raise a good point. Why even bring up free will or human nature and discuss them as separate issues? Its best just to specify the two things you bring up: the guts of salvation and what Jesus did for us. Good call, Cal . . . good call.

Not that I miss your point . . . he is a swell speaker and an impressive guy. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Nonetheless, your aside to me shan’t slip slyly by. No weasely non-specificity with me my good man! None at all! I shall seek to discern the core of things until the last; verily, I shall relentlessly pursue the truth! Not only shall I pursue it, but now I will pursue it all the more! Why, you ask? BECAUSE YOU KNOW I WILL AND THAT’S WHY YOU BROUGHT IT UP!

And for that . . . props to you, Cal, props to you!

  2. My favorite was “you have the cure for sin~ are you going to keep that kind of knowledge to yourself or are you going to get out there and tell people about it?”
