If I were to tell you how life is going thus far this week, I would say Final Fantasy VII is a huge distraction, but it’s insanely fun. With my computer currently out of the scene, FF7 has become my newest distraction extraordinaire. Other than that, it’s been cool lately ’cause I’ve been learning a lot about God and what my relationship with him is and really looks like. Also, I’ve been able to spend some time with one of the guy’s from my Bible study going over different aspects of a Christian’s identity in Christ and reading a chapter of “Wild at Heart” for every week. Anyway, I should finish up with this jazz and head back to my room for some studying.
It’s not quite my birthday but somehow I ended up getting half of my presents today. I got a bit of cashola from half of my grandparents and bought Emery - “The Weak’s End” and Mae - “destination : beautiful from BestBuy.
Emery’s a emo band with a hardcore edge. i.e., they scream a bit. I love it. Their singing is melodic and fits well with their guitar riffs, and then they throw in screaming at appropriate junctures. The other nice thing is the lyrics aren’t completely depressing. (Emery - The Secret lyrics)
Mae is an emo/indie rock band. They’re a lot more pop sounding and also have some sweet songs. Their lyrics are also hopeful and not depressing (Mae - Embers and Envelopes lyrics). They certainly will appeal to a wider audience than Emery. They’re one of many punk/emo bands on the Warped Tour lineup for this year. (And for the Navs tuning in today, their song “Summertime” was featured in the 2004 Summer Training Program promotional video.)
I also got the Fighting Jack’s album “The Dying Art of Life” from mis padres. Not sure how to describe these guys. They fall somewhere within alternative/emo/punk. Lots of guitars, somewhat political but abstract lyrics, and energetic vocals.
Each of these bands has MP3s available at PV.
