Accursed Paperclip

Poem Title: Accursed Paperclip
A Prose Poem by Erundur Anwamehtar
Date Written: 1/8/2004

Another lonely night in Longmont, and I’m listening to emo while fighting a paperclip. “Office Assistants”, how I loathe you. It’s the guitars, bass, piano, and drums that get me by; otherwise, that paperclip might die. His shifty eyes watch me and a light bulb’s yellowed surface gives him a raunchy glow. If I could, I’d grab him with fingers and pull him apart as the clock’s hands walk their path. Now he’s dancing, and I know it’s not to my music, not to my beat. Dancing without feet makes me despise him more. I’ll teach him what a pretzel looks like. He’ll give out no more tips after I’ve warped him. His eyes still watch, repeating the same motions, repeating, repeating. Will this end? This will end. I will upgrade.

ipodmini.jpgOooh… iPod mini. $249, five colors, one thousand songs. Not bad at all. This only serves to increase my Apple envy. (Sorry, the picture isn’t great quality, just hit Apple’s site for a better view.)

First Weekend 2004
Posted by on January 6th, 2004, at 1:00am

I spent the first weekend of 2004 in Colorado Springs. I made it to the Edge Corps Preview after a harrowing 3.5 hour drive through bad traffic and snowy conditions. Traffic accidents slowed things down. For comparison, driving back home this morning only took two hours.

The Edge Preview was a great experience. It communicated a lot about the Edge Corps: the mission, the purpose, and some finer details got answered in a Q&A session and by talking to current Edge Corps members.

The essence of Edge’s purpose is to advance the gospel of Christ so people, especially college students, have the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ and find their hope in him. The expectation and hope is a commitment to following God where he leads. One nice thing is that the Preview wasn’t a platform for guilting people into joining Edge, but encouraging them to go where God directs even if it’s not Edge Corps. For example, some people might begin their careers and have an impact in their workplace. Ministry is not a higher calling than a career.

It was great getting to meet other people considering Edge Corps. Many of them have similar doubts, fears, and questions, but there is also the common bond of faith in Christ and that makes sharing and talking with each other easier. People encouraged me in many ways and talking with them gave me joy. Meeting current “Edgers” was also a blessing. One fun aspect was seeing an Edge woman now at the Univ. of Oregon who I met in Japan. One Preview woman attends NYU and that Nav ministry is lead by a man who was also in Japan at the same time as I.

Last night after the Preview was over, myself and the other Previewers from Nebraska killed some time at “Pike’s Perk” coffee shop (never play Trivial Pursuit against Beracah), ate some Chipotle, and went to Kevin and Kim A.’s apartment in the Springs. We talked and played cards and then slept.

Fact or Crap: It was a great weekend.
Answer: Fact!
