The farthest I’ve hit the penguin so far is 489.4.
Update (1/30/04): My max is now 593.5. As far as I know or have heard, this is the highest result anyone has gotten with this version of the penguin-smacking game.
Wow, what luck. I wasn’t paying any attention Saturday night, then I woke up yesterday morning and everything was icy. Cora got in my car and I started scraping the windows. * scrape scrape scrape * “hmm….” * scrape scrape scrape * I heard Cora laughing from in the car. We decided that the 5 milimeters of ice would take half an hour to scrape off, so we decided we’d be late for church so we went back inside.
Last night was even more incredible. I got word of people going sledding, so I met them down in the lobby at 9pm. In our search for sleds, we wound up at the Wal-Mart south of town. Apparently, “it’s spring in retail.” Ok, seriously, IT’S SNOWING PEOPLE! Sell us sleds. Wal-Mart would’ve made at least $10 if they’d been selling sleds yesterday.
We got to the hill out at Holmes Lake yesterday, climbed to the top, and then we made use of the cardboard boxes we’d acquired. They managed fairly decently, although they were destroyed and wound up in the garbage by the time we left. So benevolent souls gave us a real sled which faired far better than the cardboard even though the sled was beat up and worn.
Afterwards there was hot chocolate and popcorn in Ray’s room, then back to my room. Oh, the joy of non-wet clothes.
And then I woke up and then I checked the internet and then I found out school was cancelled and then I decided to stay up since the day’s first activities didn’t involve trudging to class through the snow.
So now I have more time to study. * sigh *
So I was over at Wired reading this article and one of the things they talk about is Sun Microsystem’s Project Looking Glass. I watched the demo and once they got through the boring corporate speak and actually showed off the technology, it looks pretty sweet. It’s essentially a first-step towards a pseudo-3D working environment for the computer desktop. It allows you to rotate an application window in three dimensions.
This technology probably won’t actually go anywhere that the public will see it for a few years, but it’s neat to see what could come in the future.
Ok, I’m not prancing like Jake ’cause I’ve still got my major. Err… well, I guess he still has one of them, but all the same.
So far the semester hasn’t pounded me into the ground. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten seven hours of sleep. Last Friday night, actually. Oh well… I suppose a busy schedules necessitates certain compromises between lack of sleep or lack of preparation for classes. Unfortunately, it’s a negative relationship and putting more time into one (at least thus far) seems to mean getting less of the other. I need to work it out so I can study earlier in the day. This may mean studying on Saturday. Listens for a GASP
Things are going fairly well right now. I’m not _too_ behind in classes, I’m staying busy with various Navigators activities, and I’ve had some time recently to spend with God and that’s been good. Another encouraging thing is seeing the guys in our (Ray and I’s) Bible study this semester. We’ve got some guys that seem eager to learn and grow closer in relationship to God.
I’m thinking about going to Florida this summer. This year, Navs has started a new STP in Jacksonville, Florida. The idea is you get a 40 hour/week job and then you spend the nights and weekends receiving spiritual training and doing evangelism. It’s an eight week program in July and August. For me, this program would be a nice balance between getting an internship and learning a bit more about what kind of career my major could have and spiritual training that would further prepare me for taking the gospel of Christ wherever I go whether it’s the workplace or Asia or some bizarre combination of the two.
