MP3.com Is Either Dead or Dying
Posted by on November 14th, 2003, at 2:42am

MP3.com is dying in its current form. As of December 2, the website will be terminated while the new owner of its assets, CNet, works to provide a new artist services website.

All I have to say is: Argh. I enjoy MP3.com. Tooth & Nail uses it to distribute free mp3 songs of some of its artists and I also use it to check out what’s currently popular and available in alternative and punk. So much for that. I’ll be interested to see how record labels like T&N and Drive-Thru Records distribute artist MP3s after MP3.com is no more.

Plus One – Not a Boy Band (Anymore)
Posted by on November 12th, 2003, at 3:46am

Plus One isn’t a boy band anymore. CMCentral has an interview discussing all the changes that’ve happened and a bit about the first single (“Be Love”) off their new album “Exodus.”

The interview doesn’t just stay shallow, some questions actually go deep, and I appreciate that.

Nate Cole: So that’s what I’m learning now: rather than going out and talking about it so much, I want to live it out. It’s about how we treat each other. You know, “the world will know we are Christians by our love.”

Ketch Up

Time flies like a long-necked goose, except when it’s looking backwards and seeing where it’s been.

I’ve been up and down since the weekend. Fri + Sat were fine. Sunday started well. After lunch, the rest of the day went downhill with sickness. I’m not sure what to blame, but I believe food poisoning from “Dining Services” (aka the cafteria) was the culprit. My plans of Scrabble domination and country swing dancing suffered the same terrible fate as my lunch that day. Be glad, for I won’t go there.

Felt better yesterday. Mostly. Kinda tired still even today. Not much occuring so far this week. Class and the usual Monday-Tuesday stuff. Freshman Connection tonight. I’m actually prepared more than an hour in advance. (w00t!)

Now what shall I do with the time before me? Squander it? Use it for God’s glory? (Stewardship is the Bible Study for F.C. tonight.)

I think I’ll make a phone call. Bye!

A Matrix Revolutions Review That Matters
Posted by on November 11th, 2003, at 2:31am

James Lilek’s has an enticing review of Matrix Revolutions. I love his writing, especially when it’s something he’s passionate about and has time to invest in writing about. In this review, he portrays his thoughts on the second movie and expectations on the third. He then goes on to shred another review of the Matrix for its poorly contrived analogies and ideas.

I don’t know what’s more frightening–the idea that anyone takes this boy seriously, or the idea that he’s right: an entire generation got their moral instruction from a Matthew Broderick movie about a computer named after a Burger King specialty.

One of the most intriguing thoughts in his conclusions about the movie is the following:

All three Matrix movies, seen in total, ache for a God. But they can’t quite go all the way. They’re like three movies about circular flat meat patties that can never quite bring themselves to say the word “hamburger.”

Read it for yourself. It’s worth the time. (Don’t read it if you haven’t seen the movie yet.)

My Weekend Thus Far
Posted by on November 9th, 2003, at 12:41pm

It’s been a swell weekend. Tracy’s birthday was on Friday (happy birthday to youuuu…). Also, Nav Nite and afterwards went to Jacob V.’s for cards and hanging out. Today (Saturday) I painted windows for an hour before my hands got too numb to continue. 4L was around for a while this afternoon. Video games attracted a lot of attention during the day and night including Half-Life, Diablo 2, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Tyler, Phil, Jake, and Luebbe all involved at various points of the day.

Around dinnerish time, headed down to Chipotle and watched Matrix: Revolutions with some other Navigator’s and some of the freshman guys. The fajita was tasty and kept me full for a few hours. The movie … I liked it, but… nothing beats the first. Smith is the most dynamic and interesting character. The plot resolves itself to an extent at the end, but… nothing beats the first. _shrug_ Oh well. It’s hard to keep the momentum going for three movies.
