I checked my email at 2:53 this afternoon and among the spam, I noticed an email from my friend Mark S. saying that he is in Omaha for a short bit of leave from the Army before he heads back to the Balkans. So I drove an hour, hung out with him and had dinner at Applebee’s. It was awesome to see him again and to talk, talk, talk. A lot’s happened in his life and mine recently, and I feel like we only scratched the surface of what’s been going on. I hope to hang out with him some more tomorrow.
After getting back from Omaha, I went to hear Darrell Scott speak at an event called “Columbine Redemption.” His daughter, Rachel, was killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. In one of her diaries, she said, “Tomorrow is not a promise, but a chance.” I chance to reach out to people, a chance to live. It’s not just another day, and it’s not promised anywhere that tomorrow will ever arrive. It can’t always arrive, ‘cause some day everyone’s life ends.
To all those people who have ever influenced my life or been a part of my life: Thank you. Forgive me for my shortcomings and inadequacies. I cannot fulfill every expectation and I certainly realize that I often fail. At those times and in those circumstances where everyone fails and everyone lets you down, Jesus Christ can be a hope.
Psalm 130:5
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
