Microsoft is currently developing its newest version of Office software. The strange twist is that it will not be offering compatability with versions of Windows other then Windows 2000 (with Service Pack 3) or Windows XP. My theory: they want to force you to upgrade your operating system software if you have any desire to stay current (thus giving them massive profits). Office 11 is also supposed to dramatically increase compatability with XML formatted documents which will be a major change especially for businesses. One of Microsoft’s stated reasons for not supporting older version of Windows is “inherent insecurity” of the older Windows OSes. The Inquirer stated the following in their article about this:
We don’t seem to remember Microsoft telling us that Windows 98 was “inherently insecure” when we bought it. We don’t even remember the slogan “Start Here - for inherently insecure computing”.
And how.
